Your privacy is important to us. It is TanSmarter's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you within our mobile app and any other platforms we operate.

1. Information Collection and Use
We only ask for personal information when it is essential for providing our services. When you sign in with Google or Apple, your TanSmarter account will be pre-filled with your name and profile picture. We collect information by lawful and transparent means, with your knowledge and consent, and we will explain why we are collecting it and how it will be used.
We collect precise or approximate location data only to provide UV index, weather, tanning-window, session recommendation, and optional reminder features. We use precise coordinates for weather lookup while the app is active, but we minimize retention: exact coordinates are not stored with your session history on our servers. We may store a city, region, location type, or similar non-precise label with a session so your history remains understandable. If you enable optional reminders, we may store rounded approximate location and timezone on our servers while reminders are enabled so reminders can be timed for your local UV conditions.
2. Data Retention
We retain collected information only for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested services. Manual location choices and short-lived geocoding cache data may be stored locally on your device in encrypted app storage so TanSmarter can work without repeatedly asking for the same location. Local location data is cleared when you delete app data, delete your account, sign out, or switch away from a manual location. We securely store any data we retain to protect it against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.
Optional reminders may store push tokens, reminder preferences, notification event logs, and a weather snapshot cache. Notification event logs are retained for 90 days, then purged. Weather snapshots are retained until expiry, and stale snapshots are purged after 24 hours. Reminder location becomes stale after 7 days without refresh and is cleared when reminders are disabled, data is deleted, or the account is deleted.
3. Data Sharing
We do not share any personally identifying information publicly or with third parties, except as required by law or as needed to operate TanSmarter. We use third-party weather and geocoding providers to fetch UV, weather, and location-label data based on your location. We also use analytics and crash/error monitoring providers, including PostHog and Sentry, to understand product usage and diagnose reliability issues. Session replay, passive touch capture, and screen capture are disabled, and we avoid sending sensitive fields where possible.
4. External Links
The TanSmarter app may contain links to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content or privacy practices of these sites and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their privacy policies.
5. Location Data
TanSmarter uses your device location to:
- Fetch accurate UV index data for your current location
- Provide personalized tanning session recommendations
- Calculate optimal tanning times based on local conditions
- Let you save a manual location fallback on your device
Location access is only used while the app is active, such as when you check UV conditions or start a tanning session, unless you enable optional reminders. Optional reminders may use a rounded approximate reminder location and timezone stored on our servers while they are enabled. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings, though this will limit app functionality. You can also use or clear a manual location inside the app.
6. Your Choice
You are free to refuse our request for personal information, understanding that this may prevent us from providing some features of the app. Location access is required for core app functionality but you retain full control over when to grant this access.
If you sign out, TanSmarter clears local scheduled notifications on your device and asks the server to clear the signed-in user's push token. Deleting app data or deleting your account clears reminder location, timezone, push tokens, reminder preferences, notification event logs, and local scheduled notifications tied to your account where applicable.
7. Acceptance of Policy
